Francesco Musco is Full Professor of Urban Planning at Università Iuav di Venezia, where he currently serves as Director of Research (2021–2027) and President of CORILA. His academic and research activity is focused on climate change adaptation, urban and regional resilience, maritime spatial planning, and sustainable urban regeneration, with particular attention to coastal and transition environments.
In 2011 he founded the Planning & Climate Change Lab at Iuav, an applied research cluster dedicated to developing innovative approaches to resilient urban and territorial design. He is author and co-author of over 200 scientific publications and has conducted research as a visiting scholar at leading universities across Europe and the United States.
His work bridges research, policy, and design, contributing to the development of strategies and governance models for climate-resilient cities and territories. He has coordinated major European and international research programmes and played a key role in the implementation of Italy’s Maritime Spatial Plans.
He previously directed the Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme in Maritime Spatial Planning and the international MSc in Urban Planning for Transition at Iuav, recognised within the UNESCO Ocean Decade framework. He is also coordinator of the Springer editorial series Planning for Climate-Proof Cities.
