A Pact for Planet Aqua

From Venice comes a call to the world

In an era when the planet’s hydrosphere is being reshaped by the forces of climate change, the Water Declaration affirms the need for a new global awareness: to recognize water not as a resource to be exploited, but as the very foundation of existence, a connector of lands, ecosystems, and people.

Emerging from the first Venice Climate Week, the Alliance of Water Cities invites mayors, institutions, and communities across the globe to embrace a new planetary identity to acknowledge that we are not merely cities of Earth, but cities of Planet Aqua.

This declaration lays the foundation for a Blue Deal to stand alongside the Green Deal, urging local and regional governments to develop technologies, infrastructures, and policies that enable humanity to live in harmony with an ever-changing hydrosphere.

Signed in Venice, on June 4, 2025, this statement marks the beginning of a shared commitment: to protect, celebrate, and coexist with the element that unites all life.
Water.
