Stefano Pisani

Stefano Pisani (born 1975 in Vallo della Lucania, Italy) is Mayor of Pollica, a symbolic community of the UNESCO-recognized Mediterranean Diet, and a prominent advocate for sustainable local development. Deeply rooted in the culinary and cultural traditions of his territory, he has worked to transform the Mediterranean Diet from a nutritional model into a comprehensive framework for environmental sustainability, social equity, and territorial regeneration.

Pisani serves as National Coordinator of the Città Slow network in Italy and has previously held international leadership roles within the organization, promoting a vision of development centered on quality of life, local identity, and sustainable tourism. He is also ANCI delegate for small municipalities, where he advocates for stronger access to essential services, infrastructure, and funding for local communities.

His work continues the legacy of Angelo Vassallo, the “fisherman mayor,” whose commitment to environmental protection and civic responsibility remains a guiding influence. Pisani has contributed to strengthening the Study Center dedicated to Vassallo, advancing research and initiatives linked to the Mediterranean Diet and sustainable practices.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also served as ANCI delegate within the regional crisis unit in Campania, contributing to local governance and emergency response.

Through collaborations with academic institutions and research centers, Pisani promotes the integration of traditional knowledge with innovation, positioning small communities as key actors in the transition toward more sustainable and resilient systems.
