Born in Palermo and raised in Genova, he previously worked with Renzo Piano in Paris.
MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects specialises in architectural design that integrates environmental and energy strategies, supported by an in-house R&D unit focused on sustainability. The firm has completed projects across Europe, China, Africa, the Middle East and South America, including major works such as the New Surgical and Urgent Care Pole of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, the Unipol Group Headquarters, and the MIND Milano Innovation District masterplan. In 2015, Cucinella founded the SOS – School of Sustainability, a postgraduate training centre in Bologna providing future professionals with the tools to address environmental issues.
