Andrea Sironi, born 13 May 1964 in Milan, is an Italian academic and financial expert. He graduated in Economics from Bocconi University. He is Professor of Banking and Finance at Bocconi, where he served as Rector (2012–2016), Vice-Rector for International Relations and Dean of the Graduate School. Since November 2022 he is President of Bocconi.
His research focuses on financial risk management, banking regulation and supervision. He has published widely in international journals and books on these topics.
He began his career as a financial analyst at Chase Manhattan Bank in London. He held visiting positions at NYU Stern, the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., and Sciences Po in Paris. He has served on boards of major financial institutions including Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit Group, Banco Popolare, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and the London Stock Exchange Group.
Since May 2022 he is Chairman of Assicurazioni Generali. Since May 2021 he is President of the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research. He was Chairman of Borsa Italiana (2016–2022) and President of CEMS (2014–2016). He is also a board member of Fondazione Agnelli and ISPI.
He promotes social mobility at Bocconi, including scholarships and tuition waivers for disadvantaged students. Outside academia, he is an accomplished sailor with two Atlantic crossings and a swimmer who won two bronze medals at the 2018 World Transplant Games.
