Cynthia Echave Martínez is a PhD architect, urban planner, and Associate Professor at International University of Catalonia, with an interdisciplinary background in ecosystemic and regenerative urbanism. Her work bridges professional practice, academic research, and teaching, focusing on urban livability, territorial resilience, and the regeneration of both urban and rural environments.
Her research explores urban ecology through themes such as public space, mobility, and urban green infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on resilience and systemic approaches to complex territorial challenges. Cynthia advocates for holistic models that integrate environmental, social, and spatial dimensions, enabling communities to actively shape their own transitions toward more sustainable futures.
She is Co-Founder of SharedAgendas.org, an initiative connecting research, place-based action, and systemic transformation. Through this platform, she works on collaborative methodologies that foster regenerative development and participatory approaches to territorial innovation.
In recent years, Cynthia has been involved in several knowledge-transfer initiatives related to energy transition and resilience in the Mediterranean region. Her current work investigates the role of rural territories within broader ecological and socio-economic transformations through the Ecosystemic Transition Unit Model, an integrated framework designed to strengthen territorial resilience and adaptive capacity.
Her vision combines ecological thinking, urban planning, and community empowerment, positioning regenerative urbanism as a key tool for addressing contemporary environmental and societal challenges.
