Enrico Giovannini

Enrico Giovannini is one of Europe’s most influential voices on sustainable development, well-being economics, and institutional transformation. As Co-Founder and Scientific Director of ASviS, he has played a central role in integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into Italy’s political, economic, and cultural agenda, helping shape national and European debate on climate transition, innovation, and social cohesion.

A distinguished economist and statistician, Giovannini previously served as Chief Statistician of the OECD and President of ISTAT. Throughout his career, he has promoted new indicators of progress that go beyond GDP, incorporating social inclusion, environmental sustainability, quality of life, and intergenerational fairness into economic decision-making.

From 2021 to 2022, he served as Italy’s Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, leading reforms that aligned transport and infrastructure investment with climate objectives, resilience standards, and digital transformation. His ministerial work focused on decarbonization, safe mobility systems, and long-term planning consistent with the European Green Deal.
