Gilberto Pichetto Fratin is Italy’s Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, a role he has held since October 2022. With a degree in Economics and Business from the University of Turin, he began his career as an accountant and teacher before entering politics at a young age.
His political career started at the local level and developed extensively within the Piedmont Region, where he held several senior roles, including regional councillor and Vice President, with responsibilities spanning industry, labour, finance, and economic planning. He later served multiple terms in the Italian Senate, becoming a key figure in economic and budgetary policy and chairing the Senate Budget Committee.
During the Draghi government, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Economic Development, working on industrial policy, trade, and the automotive sector.
As Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Pichetto Fratin is responsible for managing Italy’s energy transition, ensuring energy supply, and advancing environmental policies. He represents Italy in European negotiations on key issues such as energy efficiency, climate policy, and industrial transformation, playing a central role in aligning national strategies with EU climate objectives.
